Games & Contests For The Pool Deck

Dance Contests (Twist, Shag, Jitterbug, Free Style, Etc., Single Contestants, Couples)

Contestants dance in the middle of a large circle formed by everyone in attendance. Once the music starts, contestants can be eliminated by “tapping out” the majority and narrowing the competition down to a few finalists. These finalists have a dance-off and the judges (everyone in the circle) choose the winner(s) by making noise for their favorite contestant as the DJ places his hand over the contestant’s head.

Hula Hoop Event (to Omi – Hula Hoop instrumental)

Whoever can last the longest while spinning the hoop around their waist, wins. Five contestants compete at a time with the winner of each “heat” remaining to compete in the final round. Winner of the final round wins a sponsored prize.

Limbo Event (to a medley or Latin Music (ex. Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, ect.)

A “Sheriff Limbo Tyrant Man” and two “Deputies” to judge the contest and hold the limbo pole are selected and adorned. Whoever can go the lowest with only their feet touching the ground, wins.

Musical Chairs

Contestants are seated in a line of chairs facing opposite directions. When the music starts, one chair is taken away, as contestants walk around the chairs in single file. When the music stops each has to find a seat. The process continues until there’s only one chair left. The one who can get in that chair wins.

Name That Tune (using a variety of old and new TV Show & Movie Themes)

Contestants and a judge are selected. The contestants sit facing the judge whose job it is to determine which contestant is the first to respond to the music. The first contestant who can give the correct name to five songs wins.

Poolside Simon Says

All contestants stand in front of “Simon” who through a quick changing set of gestures and commands, directs the players to do what he says. If any of them do so when he doesn’t say, “Simon Says,” they are out. Those remaining after a few moments win.

Thread the Needle

All players join hands in a circle with a hula hoop hanging from one person’s arm. When the music starts, play begins, the person with the hoop must step though it and pass it to a neighboring player without letting go of that person’s hands. The next player then does the same thing. Whoever has the hoop when the music stops is “out.” Play continues like “Musical Chairs” until only one person is left—the winner. The game can also be played as a race with teams lined up with separate hoops. The quickest team to pass the hoop from the first person in line to the last, wins.

Balloon Stuff

Teams of four, one “stuffy” and three “stuffers.” The “stuffy” puts on an oversized t-shirt, and the “stuffers” blow up balloons and stuff them under the t-shirt of the “stuffy”. The team with the most balloons under the shirt in three minutes, wins.

Walla Balla

Up to sixteen people, four players at a time strap on a Walla Balla belt. The object of the game is to move your hips and body (no hands allowed) and swing the ball, that’s hanging from the end of the string, into one of the 3 baskets. (Three minute time limit.) First to get their ball in wins that round. The winners of each round get a chance to be in the playoff against the other winners.

Water Balloon Toss

Teams of two stand facing each other in a line four feet apart. One at a time, each pair of contestants must toss a water balloon to each other. Those who catch it without it breaking, move back one foot at a time, and toss the balloon again. The last team left with their water balloon intact, wins.
